The deadline for this great opportunity has been extended till April 8th! Don’t miss this great chance to have the wilderness experience of a lifetime!
The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County just announced the availability of the Matt’s Climb Scholarship for 2011.
This year the Matt’s Climb Scholarship will provide the opportunity for a high school student, who is currently a sophomore or junior and lives in Santa Cruz, to participate in a 14-30 day wilderness experience at Camp Unalayee.
The Matt’s Climb Scholarship will cover up to $2,000 of the cost of tuition for camp. This Scholarship could be used towards either Unalayee’s 15 Day Session or the Walkabout Program.
The Matt’s Climb Scholarship is dedicated to Matthew Kennedy, an avid outdoorsman who was killed in a snowmobile accident in 2001 at the age of 18. His family created the scholarship at the Community Foundation as a way to honor his spirit and to help others. “We want this scholarship to be a turning point for some young person, someone who would ordinarily never be able to participate in a wilderness experience,” said Matt’s grandmother, Eliza Livingston.
